Mangochild - Do give it a try and let me know how it goes. It is a really easy recipe and perfect for thinly sliced toast.

Elin - I do have a recipe for crackers lingering around somewhere - will have to dig it out and give it a whirl. Just made homemade tortilla chips last night (with purchased local corn tortillas) - super easy and delicious!

Erika - You and your sisters were adventurous bakers! Beer bread - have never made it, but would love to try. I'll swap you the porchetta recipe for your beer bread recipe... :)

I'm so glad you posted this!!! My sisters and I used to bake soda bread all the time. I forgot how easy and delicious it is...Thanks for bringing back some memories and inspiring me to start baking bread again. Another easy and delicious bread (which I think is very similar to soda bread, but its been years since I've made it) is beer bread....

By the way when is the pot roast post coming? My clothes still have the delicious aroma on them...I'm hesitant to wash them :P

Interesting that you are on the track of good bread to make. I'm in pursuit of a good cracker recipe. The kids go through crackers like crazy, and I'm tired of buying boxes of crackers all the time. If you come across any good recipes, will you post them?

YEY!! I'm so glad your bread making is going so well. It looks delicious. Like you, I often like thin sliced bread but have had difficulty getting that with soda bread. This one looks promising.
