I couldn't find the original beer bread recipe that we use to make, but this one from the farm girl blog

 seems similar to what I remember.  She also has a recipe for cheese and dill beer bread, which I think sounds like a great combo of ingredients.  I would recommend budwiser or something similar...One of Matt's river beers would probably work well :)</description>
