Announcement: Eating Close to Home cookbook giveaway
Apr 11th, 2009 by Amy
Announcement, announcement. We are doing a cookbook giveaway for Eating Close to Home. You may remember me writing about Eating Close to Home a few months ago when it was first published. The first recipe we tried was Salmon and Corn Chowder and we were hooked. Now we want to share the book with one of our readers.
In the book, local author Elin England put together a compendium of simple, well-tested recipes using local, seasonal ingredients. The book is arranged by seasons and even has a handy chart depicting the availability of Pacific Northwest fruits and vegetables. As a bonus, Elin is graciously sharing 10% of the proceeds with Willamette Farm & Food Coalition.
In the week leading up to the drawing, we will feature recipes from the book and Elin may even make a guest appearance here. To enter the drawing, visit anytime during the week of April 19-25 and leave a comment including your name, email address, and your favorite spring recipe. We will do a random drawing two weeks from today (April 25, 2009) and contact the winner. To be eligible, you must live in the US.

Hi Amy! Strawberry rhubarb pie or crisp is my favorite spring dish. I just go wild when the berries and red stalks appear at the farmers market.
Laura - I also love rhubarb crisp - it’s fantastic! Saw your post about rhubarb too - our cooking has been strangely in sync.
We start getting warmer weather in the spring and so I enjoy salads. I go for quick and easy. I usually use bottled salad dressing, lettuce, tomato, ramen noodles, chicken etc.
I am anxiously awaiting some asparagus. I can’t get enough of it in the spring. I bake it (about 350 for 5-10 min.) with some olive oil, salt, pepper, and whatever spices I’m in the mood for. The first time I ate it, I was amazed. That was at the beginning of my journey becoming a foodie. Thanks for the giveaway. Looks like a great book.
Great idea for the giveaway. I’ve been meaning to make it to Tsunami books to pick up a copy after reading about “Eating Close To Home” in the Register Guard recently.
Thanks for making me aware of Eugene Local Foods. I just signed up for CSA for the first time and then wondered about dairy and egg deliveries and Eugene Local Foods is perfect for that.
Megan - I also can’t wait for asparagus. So good!
Dagmar - Glad you found Eugene Local Foods. We have used it all winter when the garden was asleep and CSAs were on break.
